How To Activate Your Inner Core
Patients often come to me saying that they have been doing core exercises, recommended and advised by friends, in the gym and it’s made their lower back feel worse than ever. They have heard so much about how great it has worked for their friends. They have jumped straight into the core exercises they have seen and been shown possible in classes and find their symptoms have gotten worse. They believe core, just does not work for them.
The core needs to be looked at as a skill set that needs time and practice to become better. You must learn to the basics first, very well before advancing. In regards to core you must learn to crawl before you walk.
There are 3 steps to correct core activation and technique:
- Basic motor skill training
- Basic motor skill strengthening
- Functional Progression.
So, you have got to learn how to correctly activate your core, strengthen your core and then finally make that functional for you.
